Tags and search, encrypted
Organised, without leaving a readable trail.
In short
Latent lets you tag files, filter by one or several tags and search by name, type, date range, size, tag or folder. Tags are stored encrypted inside the vault, and the search index is built in memory when you unlock and discarded when you lock.
Key takeaways
- Coloured tags, several per file, applied in bulk.
- Combinable search filters.
- Nothing readable is left on disk: not the tags, not the index, not the history.
Tags
- Create, rename and delete tags, each with a colour.
- Several tags per file, added at import or applied to a whole selection.
- Filter the gallery by one or several tags from the chips at the top.
- A star tag for favourites, and a screen showing how many files each tag holds.
Search
Search by file name or tag, and narrow results with filters you can combine: type, date range, size, tag and folder. Suggestions appear as you type, and results show in the same grid as the gallery.
Why it matters that the index is in memory
Tag names and file names are information. A tag called “medical” or a file called “contract-final.pdf” says a great deal even when the file itself is encrypted. Latent never writes tags, file names or the search index to disk in the clear. The index is rebuilt when you unlock and discarded when you lock, and search history can be turned off or erased.
